Built for the home you're still building

Autoescuela started with a couch. Ours had cost $1,800, arrived after a six-week wait, and was visibly sagging in the seat cushions by month eight. When we called the retailer, the person on the phone read from a script and offered a $50 credit toward our next purchase. We looked around and realized almost everyone we knew had a version of the same story — a piece bought in a hurry that never quite earned its price.

So we started sourcing differently. We work with a handful of small workshops in North Carolina and Michigan that still build frames from kiln-dried hardwood and hand-tie coil springs, the way furniture was built before "fast furniture" became the default. We test every upholstery fabric for abrasion resistance before it goes on a single sofa, and we price pieces at what they cost to make well, not what a showroom markup can bear.

We're still a small team, which means someone here has actually sat on every piece we sell. If it wouldn't go in our own living room, it doesn't go in yours.
